On Friday 27 March 2026, SafeWork NSW published a new Code of Practice for the Safe use and storage of agricultural and veterinary chemicals. The Code has been approved by the Minister under section 274 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) and commenced on the date of publication.
The 2026 Code of Practice applies to all types of work and all workplaces covered by the WHS Act where agricultural and veterinary chemicals (e.g: pesticides, fertilisers, cleaning agents, disinfectants, degreasers, solvents, fuels, dyes and antiseptics) are used and stored.
The 2026 Code replaces the 2006 Code of Practice for the safe use and storage of chemicals (including pesticides and herbicides) in agriculture and the 2006 Code of Practice for the safe use of pesticides including herbicides in non-agricultural workplaces.
