Overview
Marea graduated with combined Arts/Law degrees from the University of New South Wales in 1997 and obtained a Masters in Law from the University of Sydney in 2012.
Marea worked in the Employment Law team of the Crown Solicitors Office and then as an industrial officer at the United Services Union (USU), representing members in local government, private sector clerical work, the energy industry, and airlines. Marea worked as the Manager of the Legal and Industrial team before leaving the USU to work for the National Tertiary Education Union, representing members working in higher education.
Marea has also worked as a solicitor in the community legal sector and recently as a writer at Thomson Reuters, producing content for the employment law section of the plain English service, Practical Law.
Since coming to the Bar, Marea has acted for applicants and respondents in a variety of matters, including, but not limited to dismissals, disability discrimination, bullying, recovery of money and general protections.
