Claire Howell has been a member of Denman Chambers since 1996. She specialises in industrial relations, employment, administrative law and discrimination law.
Claire graduated with a Master of Arts, (First Class Honours) in Politics and Modern History (University Prize for Politics) from the University of Edinburgh in 1983 and obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of New South Wales 1994, sharing the University Medal for Law.
Prior to coming to the bar in 1996, Claire worked as a solicitor at Geoffrey Edwards & Co. Solicitors, from 1994-6, where she specialised in industrial relations and employment law.
From 1984 –90 Claire was Branch Assistant Secretary, then Branch Secretary, of the Australian Public Service Association (WA Branch). She was also a Federal Executive Member of APSA, an Executive Member of the Labor Council of Western Australia and Vice President of the Labor Council of Western Australia.
From 1983 – 4 Claire worked as a research assistant for the late Senator Peter Cook. From 1979 – 1983 (whilst studying) she worked as a nursing assistant, bartender, and factory production worker.
