Jane Paingakulam was called to the Bar in October 2009. Since then she has practised predominantly in Criminal Law, including appellate matters, and more recently, Work Health and Safety matters. Jane appears both for the crown/prosecution and the defence. In 2012, Jane was appointed to the Legal Aid General Criminal Law Panel. In 2015, Jane was appointed to the Legal Aid Specialist Barrister Panel (Criminal Appellate Matters). Jane also advises and appears in Administrative Law matters, particularly merits review.

Jane was admitted as a solicitor in 1996. Prior to commencing at the bar, Jane worked in the Australian Public Service for almost 14 years across 5 agencies.  Jane primarily held roles with an investigative or regulatory function,  including over 5 years in the Enforcement Directorate of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Immediately prior to commencing practice as a barrister in 2009, Jane was the NSW Regional Director of the Australian Public Service Commission.
